A special bench made from Ganitri wood designed by BSBarchitect.
The Ganitri tree itself fell about three months ago because it was nearly 100 years old, and the trunk had become hollow, with a large hole running from bottom to top, eaten away by termites. The main trunk had a diameter of 1.5 meters, but it was largely hollow in the center. This means the tree had actually died and its wood had long since dried out while it was still standing.
This condition is also advantageous for processing, because the moisture content in the wood is greatly reduced—the wood has dried naturally. On one of the branches, the architect from BSBarchitect noticed a particular form and designed it into the bench shown in the photo.
Recreating a form like this would be extremely difficult or very rare. At the very least, obtaining a similar monolithic bench shape with a curve in the middle like this would take a very long time.
The bench measures 210 cm in length, 40–50 cm in width (live edge), and 39 cm in height. The top surface used for sitting is made smooth, while the sides and underside are left natural. The texture is very beautiful and perfect.
